Tonks Family
Tonks is the daughter of a pure-blood witch, Andromeda Black-Tonks (who was born into the old Black family) and a Muggle-born wizard, Ted Tonks. The Black Family greatly valued blood purity and therefore disowned Andromeda for marrying Ted. For this reason, Andromeda is considered a blood traitor by the old wizarding families.
Tonks gets on well with Harry, Hermione and Ginny - she is, in fact, very similar in mannerisms and personality to Ginny. Many fans have concluded that her (and Hermione’s) role is in part to act as an older sister for Ginny, the youngest child and only girl in a family with seven children. In Half-Blood Prince, Tonks revealed that she is in love with Remus Lupin, but was frustrated and depressed by his refusal to pursue the romance, though Lupin seems to have changed his mind by the end of the book.
Neither of her parents have appeared in the novels so far, and almost nothing is known about their personalities, though they are evidently alive. (Tonks describes them in the present tense in Order of the Phoenix.) Tonks mentions that, while Andromeda had a talent for cleanliness, Ted was “a right old slob”. Andromeda is also responsible for naming their child Nymphadora, a name the latter utterly detests.
Andromeda was Sirius Black’s cousin, making him Tonks’s first cousin once removed. Andromeda was Sirius’ favorite cousin, but unfortunately Tonks never had a chance to really get to know him, as he was imprisoned for most of her life and died shortly afterward. Andromeda’s sisters, Narcissa Malfoy and Bellatrix Lestrange, are Tonks’s aunts. Lucius Malfoy and Rodolphus Lestrange are her uncles by marriage. Draco Malfoy is her first cousin, though neither she nor Draco acknowledge this; in Half-Blood Prince Tonks dispassionately refers to Draco as “the Malfoy boy”. It’s doubtful that they’ve ever met, as Lucius and Narcissa wouldn’t want her family being a “bad influence” on Draco.
In Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Tonks’ and Lupin have a small wedding in which Harry is not invited. Lupin is hesitant to wed Tonks’ because he doesn’t want to endanger her with his werewolf habits, and is clearly troubled when he learns that Tonks’ is pregant with their child, fearing he has passed his werewolf traits to his son.
Ted Remus “Teddy” Lupin is the orphaned only son of Remus Lupin and Nymphadora Tonks and godson of Harry Potter. He is named after Tonks’s late father, Ted Tonks, and his own father, Remus. Teddy is a Metamorphmagus like his mother Nymphadora, and is not affected by his father’s werewolf status. Later, in the epilogue of Deathly Hallows, he is announced by Harry’s elder son James as being on the Hogwarts Express train and snogging Victoire Weasley, the daughter of Fleur Delacour and Bill Weasley. At nineteen, according to the series timeline, Teddy is too old to be attending Hogwarts, so he is present at the station only to see Victoire off to school. Rowling stated that Teddy was raised by his maternal grandmother, Andromeda Tonks, and not by his godfather, Harry. However, he has a very close relationship with Harry, who mentions that he usually comes to dinner at his house four times a week.
